There’s a new cocktail bar in Columbus, and it comes from the owners of Ace of Cups. Let Me Roll It recently opened, and we stopped in during its first week, which means we got to experience that magical stage of a new bar where everyone is still figuring out where things go and the staff is probably running entirely on adrenaline and caffeine.
Let Me Roll It is a cool space with a laid-back retro vibe. One of my favorite things is the record collection. You can actually pick out a record and play it. The space is divided into two rooms: a cozy bar area with several small tables and a larger room with additional seating, a photo booth, and plenty of space to hang out.
There’s also a cute covered patio, which I managed to get a picture of, so obviously I am legally required to tell you about it. Overall, it’s a really fun space and feels like somewhere you could easily settle in for a few drinks without feeling rushed.
The Drinks
While Let Me Roll It is primarily a cocktail bar, they also have a small selection of classic and local canned and bottled beers, along with wine. But obviously, we were here for cocktails.
We tried four, and cocktails run around $11–$14, which is pretty standard for Columbus these days.
Strawberry Daiquiri
A solid take on a classic. It was fruity without feeling like I had accidentally ordered a melted popsicle, and we were very happy with it.
Paloma
Another classic done well. Refreshing, easy to drink, and exactly what you want when you’re looking for something that feels like it could convince you to order “just one more.”
Watermelon Romero
This was our favorite by far. It’s a summery take on a Corpse Reviver and really stood out from the other drinks. The combination of mint, cucumber, and watermelon has been a huge hit in our household this summer, so this cocktail basically walked into the room already knowing it had my vote.
It was nicely balanced and not overly sweet, which made it dangerously easy to drink. This was definitely the standout of the night for us.
Espresso Martini
They say it’s the city’s best espresso martini, which is a very bold claim. That is basically declaring war on every brunch spot and cocktail bar in Columbus.
To quote Hozier, “You’re too sweet for me.” It wasn’t bad, I just prefer my espresso martinis to be more coffee-forward and a little less dessert-like. If you like a sweeter espresso martini, though, this could absolutely be your drink.
What to Know Before You Go
Parking is a pain. There is paid parking, so plan accordingly. This is Columbus, after all, where apparently the price of admission to having a nice cocktail is sometimes also figuring out where you’re going to leave your car.
Final Thoughts
Overall, Let Me Roll It is a fun addition to the Columbus cocktail scene. The space is cool, the record-player setup is a great touch, and the cocktails have some fun twists on classics.
We’re excited to see how the bar develops once they get more events and programming going. Between the vintage atmosphere, records, patio, and photo booth, it already has a lot going for it.
And any place where I can drink a Watermelon Romero while controlling the soundtrack is probably going to get my vote.
