We recently checked out Dragonfly Bookshop in Hilliard, and I may have found another bookstore that is dangerous for my wallet.

Dragonfly is the kind of bookstore that makes you want to wander around and look at everything. It has a really cute, cozy feel, and there are plenty of books that will have you saying, “Oh, I’ve been meaning to read that!” followed immediately by, “Well, I guess I’m buying it.”

One of the first things that caught our attention was the Dungeon Crawler Carl display. If you haven’t gotten into Dungeon Crawler Carl yet, this is your sign. And if you have, then you already know why we were excited to see Princess Donut getting the recognition she deserves.

We loved Princess Donut.

Another thing we really liked was the Blind Date with a Book section. The books are wrapped so you don’t know exactly what you’re getting, but there are clues to help you make your choice. I love these because sometimes you need someone else to make the decision for you.

Especially when you’ve been standing in front of the bookshelf for 20 minutes saying, “I don’t know what I want to read.”

Dragonfly also has a lot of greatest hits. There are plenty of books you’ve probably seen recommended a million times, books your friends keep telling you to read, and books that have been sitting on your TBR list since approximately 2019. It’s a really nice mix of familiar favorites and books that might be new to you.

But one of my favorite things about Dragonfly is that they aren’t just selling books—they are creating reasons for people to hang out.

I love seeing bookstores do this because it turns the bookstore into more of a community space. You can come in looking for your next read, meet some people, play some D&D, swap books, or spend an evening playing Book Bingo.

And honestly, I’m always here for an event that gives me an excuse to buy another book.

Dragonfly feels like a bookstore that understands that being a book person isn’t just about reading. It’s about talking about books, finding people who are equally excited about books, discovering something completely random, and occasionally becoming obsessed with a fictional cat.

What to Know Before You Go

There is free parking in the lot directly in front of the building, plus street parking around downtown Hilliard. The one thing that can be a little confusing is the entrance. The address says Main Street, but the actual entrance is on Norwich Street. So if you find yourself standing on Main Street looking around for a bookstore entrance, you just need to walk around to the Norwich Street side.

If you’re already planning to visit, take a look at Dragonfly’s events calendar first. They host things like D&D, Book Bingo, book swaps, book clubs, and other fun events throughout the year. And certain events offer 15% off your purchase, so you might as well combine your event attendance with some book shopping. Because saving 15% on books means you can buy more books. That’s just math.
